Programs
The original information was provided by surveys by international expeditions mainly from Europe but the lake has generally received limited attention due to its remoteness in the two countries that share it. Some of the major survey of the lake include: The fishery survey by Worthington in 1928; The fisheries survey of the lake by Holden in 1963; The Belgium Hydrobiological Expedition to lakes Albert, Edward and Kivu of 1952-1954. The Lakes Edward and Albert Fisheries and Water Resources Management
Project (LEAF) coordinated under the Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP) of Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) to improve water resources management of the two lakes is the most recent survey of the Lake. NGOs like the Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) and WWF have run sustainable use programs in the Albertine rift.
