Programs
The original information on the lake was provided by surveys by international expeditions mainly from Europe. Some of the major survey of the lake include: The Belgium Hydrobiological Expedition to lakes Albert, Edward and Kivu of 1952-1954. The Lakes Edward and Albert Fisheries and Water Resources Management Project (LEAF) coordinated under the Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP) of Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) to improve water resources
management of the two lakes is the most recent survey of the Lake. NGOs like the Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) and WWF have run sustainable use programs in the Albertine rift.
